Creating Sites Using SharePoint Packages

In addition to creating a SharePoint Web site using a template, you can also add SharePoint Web applications to create a related Web site using SharePoint package templates. The package templates allows you to create an issue tracking site with management tools, a news and reviews site with discussions and voting, and a Web log site with discussions, favorite links and a log search. A package template is different than a normal template; it consists of a single file and creates libraries, lists, and other database objects in addition to the ordinary Web content.

Packages can export and import not only Web pages and related files, such as pictures and style sheets, but also SharePoint lists, and other related objects. Click the Tools menu, point to Packages, and then click Import or Export. In the Import Web Packages dialog box, specify the folder location in the destination box, clear the check boxes with the items you don't want and then click Import. In the Export Web Packages dialog boxes, use the Add or Remove buttons to add or remove files. Click Hide Dependencies or Show Dependencies, set properties if necessary, and then click OK.
