Validating Forms

To make sure that the visitor fills out the forms correctly, you will have to set data entry rules, a process also known as Validation. You can further guide the user by setting the format in which the data is accepted. If you're asking for a telephone number, for example, set up your text box so that it only accepts numbers and hyphens. You can also pre-set the number of character spaces so the visitor doesn't inadvertently leave out or add a number. A Validate button is provided in field related dialog boxes, where you can set validation rules.

After you've collected the information, you need to access it. FrontPage offers form handlers, server programs that are executed when a form is submitted to your site. Using these form handlers you can produce a database of visitor information and even offer users access to special features. You can have the results saved (or e-mailed) as either a text or HTML file.

You can also add a confirmation page (the form the visitor has just filled out is displayed and the visitor is given the opportunity to either edit or confirm it); create keyboard shortcuts (displayed as an underlined letter in the field label); or allow visitors to navigate the form using the Tab key.
