Introduction

In addition to inserting graphics and multimedia, you can also create and insert drawings, AutoShapes, and WordArt to enhance your Web pages. With Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003, you can choose from a set of pre-designed shapes, or you can use tools that allow you to draw and edit your own shapes and forms. FrontPage's drawing tools control how you place objects on your Web page in relation to one another. If you choose to combine objects, you can create sophisticated effects.

When you create drawings, AutoShapes, and WordArt objects in FrontPage, the program stores the elements as a collection of lines, curves, and other shapes instead of a picture. This format is called VML, which stores the information in XML format. Since not all browsers support VML, FrontPage provides an option on the Page Options dialog box to save GIF versions of every drawing, AutoShape, and WordArt object you create to avoid problems.

Once you have the objects on your page, you can apply a number of elements to the graphic. You can color them, apply a fill effect, create a shadow, or even add a 3-D effect to the object. A once drab two dimensional graphic can be enhanced to be the graphic you need for your page. WordArt is an Office component that allows you to add visual enhancements to your text that go beyond changing a font or font size. You can select a WordArt style that stretches your text horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. WordArt is treated like any other graphic in your page development.

After enhancing your graphic, you might need to move it, or change it's alignment. You might find that you need to layer or stack the object a different way to get the affect you're looking for. You can even rotate or flip the object to have it display in the way that works best for your FrontPage document.
